Clair Obscur Nears Full GOTY Sweep Following GDC Awards Win

Sandfall Interactive’s Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 continued its remarkable run of critical success this week, emerging as the primary victor at the Game Developers Choice Awards. During the ceremony, held at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco, the acclaimed role-playing game secured five trophies, including the night’s top honor, Game of the Year.

In addition to the premier prize, Clair Obscur triumphed in the categories for Best Debut, Best Visual Art, Best Narrative, and Best Audio. Meanwhile, the indie puzzle-adventure Blue Prince—celebrated for its imaginative, shifting mansion architecture—earned two prestigious accolades: Best Design and the Innovation Award.

With this latest win, Clair Obscur has now claimed four of the industry’s “Big Five” accolades, having already secured Game of the Year titles at the Golden Joystick Awards, The Game Awards, and the DICE Awards. This streak places the title in an elite tier of gaming history, alongside legendary masterpieces such as God of War, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and Elden Ring.

The industry is now watching to see if Sandfall Interactive can achieve a historic clean sweep at the BAFTA Games Awards this April. If it succeeds, it will join Baldur’s Gate 3 as the only other game to ever win all five major awards in a single cycle. While BAFTA voters are known for their unconventional choices, Clair Obscur enters the upcoming ceremony as the frontrunner with the highest number of nominations.

The GDC Awards are determined by a panel of industry experts and the editorial staff of Game Developer. The full list of recipients is as follows:
