Chingiz Aitmatov’s novel “The Day Lasts More Than a Hundred Years” to be adapted for the screen in Russia

Production company Sash-Movie has announced the development of a film adaptation of “The Day Lasts More Than a Hundred Years”✱also known as “The Burannyi Railway Station”, the debut novel by acclaimed author Chingiz Aitmatov.

The project will be helmed by director Igor Voloshin (“The Wizard of the Emerald City,” “Buratino”), with the screenplay adapted by Oleg Malovichko (“Route,” “Attraction”). The narrative centers on Yedigei, a Soviet railway worker, as he navigates the funeral of his lifelong friend, Kazangap.

The film is slated for a 2028 release, coinciding with the centennial of Aitmatov’s birth. Other notable screen adaptations of the author’s works include “Farewell, Gulsary!”, “The White Ship,” and “Jamilia.”
