“Charlie’s Angels” to be rebooted again

Sony Pictures is currently developing a fresh iteration of the “Charlie’s Angels” action franchise, according to reports from The Hollywood Reporter.

Peter Chiarelli, the screenwriter behind “The Proposal” and “Crazy Rich Asians,” has been tapped to pen the upcoming film. Details regarding the new cast of private investigators have not yet been disclosed.

The “Charlie’s Angels” legacy began on American television, where the original series ran from 1976 to 1981. Its most commercially successful big-screen adaptation remains the early 2000s duology starring Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore, and Lucy Liu, which collectively earned $530 million at the global box office.

The franchise was most recently revived in 2019 with a film directed by Elizabeth Banks and starring Kristen Stewart. However, that version underperformed financially and received a lukewarm reception from critics, maintaining a 52% score on Rotten Tomatoes.
