Variety has revealed the cast for Universal’s new project, The Uprising.
Academy Award nominee Andrew Garfield will headline the sprawling historical drama. He’ll be joined on screen by Jamie Bell, Cosmo Jarvis and Thomasin McKenzie. Katherine Waterston, Jonny Lee Miller and Woody Norman had previously been announced as part of the ensemble.
Directed by Paul Greengrass (The Bourne Ultimatum, The School Bus), the film chronicles the revolt led by Wat Tyler, portrayed by Garfield. The largest peasant uprising in England erupted in 1381: in the aftermath of the Black Death and amid severe economic and social strain, Tyler rose up against King Richard II and demanded the abolition of serfdom.
Greengrass also penned the screenplay, and Jason Blum (Insidious) is listed among the producers. No release date has been announced.
