Following a wave of player criticism regarding Marathon’s microtransaction structure, Bungie has issued an official response and a plan for immediate adjustments.
The controversy centered on a $10 currency pack that provided 1,100 LUX, while most character skins were priced at 1,120 LUX—a tactic often seen as predatory. Bungie has committed to fixing this discrepancy by increasing the pack’s value to exactly 1,120 LUX. Additionally, players who previously purchased the bundle will receive in-game compensation to make up the difference.
The studio also pledged to elevate the overall quality of cosmetic items, ensuring that players feel they are getting genuine value when spending money in the shop.
Alongside economy tweaks, the developers are addressing concerns regarding the game’s steep difficulty curve. The upcoming update will implement several quality-of-life changes:
- Marker visibility distance will be doubled, increasing from 10 to 20 meters.
- The Perimeter map will see a higher density of medical supplies and ammunition crates.
- Starting ammo counts for the MIDA, CyberAcme, and Arachne free loadouts will be increased.
Despite these concessions, the community remains divided. While some players praise Bungie for swiftly eliminating friction points, others worry that the studio is beginning to dilute Marathon’s uncompromising, hardcore identity in favor of accessibility.
