BTS’ Jin has long embraced his role as the group’s eldest member—and he remains characteristically confident about his status as its most handsome face.

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Jin sat down with senior writer Brian Hiatt to reflect on his solo foray into rock music, his admiration for Coldplay, and the excitement surrounding BTS’ reunion for their latest album, ARIRANG, and the accompanying global tour. Amidst the discussion, the singer shared candid reflections on his journey within the iconic K-pop collective.

“Naturally, there is a physical toll,” Jin admitted when asked about the realities of performing as a 33-year-old idol (or 35, according to the traditional Korean age calculation). “While it’s true that the choreography feels more demanding these days, I view it as a challenge I must simply overcome.”

Jin emphasized that he pours extra effort into his training to ensure he delivers his absolute best for the fans. He also offered a glimpse into his self-assessment regarding his performance standards compared to his bandmates.

“I am fully aware that my movements don’t always match the precision of the other members,” he noted with honesty. However, rather than succumbing to doubt, he uses that gap as fuel. “That’s exactly why I prioritize arriving early to practice and staying late to refine my craft.”

Despite feeling he has to work harder to keep pace with the group’s choreography, Jin maintains a playful stance on his own strengths. “I do genuinely believe I’m the best-looking member,” he jested, while acknowledging the group’s collective charm. “A man needs to be the best at something, after all.”

The conversation also touched on the creation of ARIRANG, which has already claimed the top spot on the Billboard 200. Jin explained that his absence from the songwriting process was purely due to his busy solo schedule. Having been on the road for his first solo tour, RUNSEOKJIN_EP.TOUR—supporting his acclaimed album Echo—he returned to find the studio already filled with tracks.

“By the time I reached the studio, there were over a hundred songs waiting for us,” he shared. After spending about a week recording the strongest options, the album was finalized. Though he mused that his personal touch might have added a different flair, he praised the group for their exceptional work.

Ultimately, Jin finds the most joy in simply being back with his brothers and preparing for the stage. When asked about his aspirations for the coming years, his goal was simple and heartfelt: “My greatest dream is to continue touring with BTS and connect with as many fans as possible, everywhere in the world.”
