Blizzard Officially Reveals ‘WoW Classic Plus’ as World of Warcraft Forever
Following an extensive wave of speculation, rumors, and community leaks, Blizzard Entertainment has officially unveiled World of Warcraft Forever. Long awaited by fans under the moniker WoW Classic Plus, this upcoming project breathes new life into the beloved vanilla era of the legendary MMORPG. The major announcement took center stage during the grand opening ceremony at BlizzCon 2026, with a release slated for the near future.
During the presentation, Holly Longdale—executive producer and vice president for the franchise—described the title as an experience that feels simultaneously “friendly, familiar, and new.” She emphasized that the core philosophy treats the living world itself as the primary protagonist, aiming to cultivate a deeply connected and supportive player community.
Designed to be both welcoming for newcomers and endlessly rewarding for veterans, Longdale noted that World of Warcraft Forever prioritizes the journey over the destination, ensuring players can truly settle into the virtual landscape without feeling rushed.
What is World of Warcraft Forever?
Rather than merely preserving the original 2004 launch state in stasis, World of Warcraft Forever operates inside a dedicated “time bubble” anchored firmly within the inaugural year of the game’s history, retaining a strict level 60 cap for the foreseeable future. Crucially, Blizzard is introducing an array of brand-new adventures tailored specifically to harmonize with the design ethos and era-appropriate rules of this classic iteration.
The development team outlined a substantial roadmap of fresh content engineered exclusively for the experience, featuring:
- Three entirely unprecedented regional zones
- Comprehensive overhauls of several legacy zones
- More than 1,000 fresh quests
- Darkspear Islands, a brand-new PvP Battleground
- Nine newly minted dungeons
- Fresh crafting professions and faction reputations
- Enhanced graphical fidelity for the classic world
- Two endgame raid tiers designed for 10-player and 20-player groups
- The Skyborne Elves, a unique playable race originating from one of the new territories
Blizzard stressed that this expansive lineup of fresh additions is carefully distributed across all leveling brackets, rather than solely catering to maximum-level characters.
When is World of Warcraft Forever coming out?
Attendees at BlizzCon 2026 can already get hands-on time with the game on the show floor. For those at home, the public beta kicks off next week on September 17, paving the way for the official worldwide launch on November 4.
Since its monumental debut more than twenty years ago, World of Warcraft has evolved immensely through eleven expansions and countless paradigm-shifting updates. While current developments like the Midnight expansion and its Eclipse update continue to push modern horizons forward, a massive segment of the player base has always yearned for the grounded pacing of the original era. Although 2019’s World of Warcraft Classic successfully recreated that nostalgic feeling, it eventually progressed through expansions like The Burning Crusade, Wrath of the Lich King, Cataclysm, and Mists of Pandaria.
Now, enthusiasts finally have the opportunity to turn back the hands of time permanently, stepping back into the quintessential golden age of Azeroth to stay.
Housing and a war on mods have thrown the game out of balance, and players’ mood ahead of the Midnight expansion is febrile
