Blizzard Bans Development of World of Warcraft Bot — Modders Shut Project After Lawyers’ Intervention
The developers have drawn the attention of Blizzard’s legal team.
A niche project for World of Warcraft recently came under scrutiny. Modders were creating an application to automate gameplay (effectively building bots).
Activision Blizzard’s attorneys intervened and demanded the work stop — the modders complied and terminated the project:
After receiving communication from legal representatives of Blizzard Entertainment and Activision, we have decided to halt development, end support, and stop distribution of Baneto. The Baneto service will be taken offline. Consequently, all of our tools and associated services will cease operating immediately. This is our final official statement on the matter; no further comments or updates will be provided.
