Blizzard Announces World of Warcraft: Forever, Expanding Vanilla WoW with New Zones, Raids, and 1,000 New Quests

Blizzard is turning back the clock to 2004 and preserving that classic era with World of Warcraft: Forever. This ambitious new standalone edition builds directly upon the vanilla WoW foundation, introducing expansive new zones, heavily revamped legacy environments, and a massive slate of fresh content tailored for both veterans and newcomers.

Players can look forward to roughly 1,000 brand-new quests spanning the entire 1–60 leveling journey, alongside nine additional dungeons and scalable 10-to-20-player raids. The update also introduces the Skyborne, a striking new neutral elven playable race. Other major additions include a seamless SD/HD graphics toggle, unconventional race and class combinations—such as the Undead Paladin teased in the official reveal trailer—expanded talent trees, and fresh faction reputations rewarding exclusive gear and account-wide perks.

Exploration takes center stage with three pristine regions: Mount Hyjal, Zephras Isle, and The Riverglades, complemented by a frantic new battleground set across the Darkspear Islands. While Blizzard is keeping tight-lipped about which classic zones are receiving the revamp treatment, they have confirmed significant engine upgrades. Expect modern visual flourishes including advanced global illumination, dynamic volumetric particle effects, a completely overhauled water renderer, and crisp real-time shadows.
