Bandai Namco Restructures Anime Business to More Actively Promote the Gundam Franchise

Bandai Namco is preparing to intensify promotion of the Gundam franchise both in Japan and abroad.

Bandai Namco Holdings has announced a sweeping restructuring of its anime operations. The changes will affect Bandai Namco Filmworks and Sotsu Co., Ltd., merging overlapping functions tied to production, planning, and intellectual property management for the Gundam franchise.

Bandai Namco completed its acquisition of Sotsu in 2019 to consolidate franchise rights. Despite belonging to the same corporate group, Gundam development has proceeded on parallel tracks: Filmworks handled production and planning, while Sotsu managed sales and merchandising. This duplication of roles reduced overall efficiency.

The company aims to make brand governance more transparent and effective — particularly as it prepares a new film produced in collaboration with Legendary Pictures and Sunrise.

The reorganization is scheduled to be finished by April 1, 2026.
