ASUS previously offered a “gold” RTX 5090 plated with 6.5 grams of gold for $10,000 — but affluent collectors still felt that wasn’t enough.
The ROG Astral RTX 5090 Dhahab Edition made its debut at Bilibili World 2025 in Shanghai.
ASUS engineer Tony Yu has now released a video showing the creation of what may be the most expensive graphics card ever. The project was a collaboration between ASUS and Chinese creator and private investor Magic Bear, who supplied the gold. The card is a bespoke modification of the existing RTX 5090, featuring a completely redesigned exterior.
The gold-casting process took several months and more than ten unsuccessful attempts. Each component — including the shroud, backplate and frame — was cast, shaped and hand-polished. The completed card weighs 7.56 kg and required roughly 5 kg of gold to produce.
The card was originally intended for auction, but a private collector purchased it for $500,000 before the sale began. Part of the proceeds will be donated to Bilibili Charity to support education for children in rural areas.
Unlike the earlier $10,000 “gold” edition, which used 6.5 grams of gold, this solid-gold model will remain a one-of-a-kind piece.
The video is available at this link on Bilibili.
