Assassin’s Creed Launches $500K Real-World Treasure Hunt

Following a tease earlier this May regarding an upcoming Assassin’s Creed live event, Ubisoft has unveiled a surprising new venture. In anticipation of the launch of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, the publisher is collaborating with the French firm Unsolved Hunts to host a real-world treasure hunt, offering participants a chance to claim a staggering $500,000 in pirate-themed rewards.

Titled Gold & Crystal — The Lost Treasure of Edward Kenway, this initiative aims to provide an immersive, high-stakes experience inspired by the franchise’s iconic protagonist. According to an official press release, the hunt involves deciphering a complex array of clues, including encrypted messages in bottles, Caribbean navigational charts, and a series of archives featuring 15 intricate puzzles rooted in Black Flag Resynced lore.

The ultimate prize consists of $350,000 in gold coins paired with a $150,000 crystal skull—a meticulous replica of the artifact featured in the game. This bounty is currently hidden somewhere in the Caribbean, awaiting the most persistent and sharp-witted treasure hunter.

The Gold & Crystal portal clarifies that franchise familiarity is not required; the riddles rely instead on historical trivia, logical deduction, and intuition. To join the quest, participants must purchase a clue kit. The base tier starts at $39.99 for digital access, while a $59.99 premium edition provides both physical and digital materials. Additional collections are available, featuring bonus items like themed notebooks and the Chaotic Armada board game. Pre-orders are open now, with the official hunt commencing on November 9.

Ubisoft and Unsolved Hunts are clearly setting the bar high, estimating that the search could span anywhere from two to five years. While participants are encouraged to collaborate as a team, the organizers have specified that only a single individual can ultimately claim the treasure—so choose your crew wisely.

If you prefer digital adventures over burying your nose in physical maps, you won’t have to wait years for your next fix. Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced is scheduled to arrive on July 9 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Windows PC.
