Disco Elysium Creator Reveals Favorite RPGs

Owlcat Games’ work delivered the sensation of adventure reminiscent of the Baldur’s Gate II era.

A fresh discussion recently unfolded on social media as players began sharing their top five favorite cRPGs. One of the key developers behind the acclaimed Disco Elysium joined the conversation to share his own favorite projects.

Argo Tuulik included both classic representatives of the cRPG genre and relatively recent projects in his selection. Among them, he mentioned a well-known game with Cypriot roots: Pathfinder: Kingmaker by Owlcat Games.

The top cRPGs according to Argo Tuulik, co-writer of Disco Elysium:

  • Planescape: Torment
  • Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura
  • Baldur’s Gate
  • Tyranny
  • Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines

Owlcat Games’ project was included in the honorable mentions list, which is presented in no particular order:

  • Fallout 2
  • Pathfinder: Kingmaker
  • Pillars of Eternity
  • Age of Decadence
  • Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
  • Dragon Age: Origins

When a community member asked why the developer chose Pathfinder: Kingmaker instead of the newer Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous, the developer replied that it came down to personal experience:

Both games are S-tier for me, but Kingmaker gave me a special feeling of adventure and growth alongside my party that I haven’t experienced since Baldur’s Gate II—and essentially haven’t experienced since. Wrathfinder is definitely objectively better as a game, but when talking about personal favorites, out of those two, it’s Kingmaker for me.
