HBO is counting Lanterns viewers but has not yet renewed the series for a second season
The first-season finale of Lanterns set a new viewership record, but the Green Lanterns are still waiting for a green light.
The Lanterns season one finale, released on October 5, set a new audience record for the series. According to HBO data cited by Deadline, the episode was watched by 10.5 million people worldwide over its first three days, including 7.2 million in the United States. That is a 13% increase over the premiere period, as the first episode gathered 9.3 million viewers at launch.
Factoring in subsequent viewing, the average audience for the season has already reached 19.3 million viewers per episode, and the premiere is approaching the 30 million mark. Despite these figures, HBO has not yet renewed the series for a second season, although preliminary work on a continuation has been underway since mid-July.
