Are Pokémon Running Out? Pokémon GO Has a Huge Problem Despite a Large Player Base

Nearly a decade after its debut, Pokémon GO remains one of the most popular mobile games worldwide. Every day thousands of trainers catch, evolve, and trade creatures, while events and limited-time raids continue to draw huge crowds.

The upcoming 10th anniversary has become a marker of the brand’s resilience, but it has also highlighted an unexpected challenge — the game is running out of new Pokémon to add.

As Reddit users have pointed out, Pokémon GO has reached a threshold where few species remain to be introduced. After the most recent event that added Impidimp, Morgrem, and Grimmsnarl, the in-game total climbed to 926 of the 1,025 known Pokémon — leaving just 99 unadded. Generations I, II, III, V, and VI are complete, and from Generation IV only Arceus, Manaphy, and Phione are still missing.

There’s no need to panic yet. Fans note that upcoming tenth-generation titles, currently codenamed Wind and Wave, will bring new species, and many alternate forms—such as Mega Evolutions and Dynamax—have not been fully implemented in Pokémon GO. It seems Niantic still has ideas to draw from, and the Pokédex is far from finished.
