Arc Raiders Featured in New ‘South Park’ Episode — Developers Found Out Two Days Before It Aired
The creators of South Park took notice of the growing popularity of Embark Studios’ shooter.
Arc Raiders, which has recently become one of the year’s most-played multiplayer titles, made an unexpected cameo in a new South Park episode. In the installment titled Turkey Trot viewers noticed Tolkien Black playing Embark Studios’ shooter on an Xbox — and in several scenes the actual gameplay of the project is shown on screen.
It turned out the collaboration was arranged just days before the broadcast. Embark’s head of marketing, Ashley Saint-Germain, wrote on LinkedIn that South Park representatives contacted the studio on Monday asking to feature Arc Raiders in the episode. The next day Embark sent the requested footage, and the episode aired on Wednesday.
“Apparently, like Tolkien, many of us simply can’t tear ourselves away from Arc Raiders,” Saint-Germain joked, adding that the game’s appearance in the show was “the best Thanksgiving gift.”
