Fan-Made Dota 2 Mobile Game Released as Players Fear Valve Action
The creators of the unofficial Dota 2 Mobile adaptation have released version 1.0 for Android and iOS and are asking players to support the project through in-game purchases.
The fan-made adaptation brings Dota 2’s battles, heroes, and mechanics to smartphones, but it is being developed without Valve’s involvement. For the release, the developers expanded the roster to 40 heroes, added more than 300 cosmetic items, and updated the menu and interface. They also plan to add a friends system and lobbies.
Some Reddit users were impressed enough to suggest that Valve hire the creators of the mobile version. Others raised concerns about the monetization, saying that attempting to make money from someone else’s franchise could attract the rights holder’s attention and put the project’s future at risk.
Valve has not publicly responded to the release.
