Apple TV canceled the release of the French series “The Hunt” after accusations of plagiarism

Streaming service Apple TV has decided not to release the French thriller The Hunt (Traqués). The series was slated to debut on December 3.

The show’s creator and director, Cédric Anger, has been accused of plagiarism. According to media reports, Anger allegedly appropriated the plot in full from Douglas Fairbairn’s novel Shoot (1973) without securing the rights. The book was adapted for the screen in 1976.

The leads in The Hunt are Benoît Magimel (The Piano Teacher) and Mélanie Laurent (Inglourious Basterds). The story follows a group of friends who are attacked while on holiday; after one of the assailants is accidentally killed, Frank and his companions decide to conceal what happened.

The Hunt was intended as a six-episode series. Previously, Apple shelved the release of the series Savant, starring Jessica Chastain, citing political reasons.
