Anything Is Possible in Hollywood — “Batgirl” Star Hopes Film Will Still Be Released

Three years after Warner Bros. pulled the release of Batgirl, actor Jacob Scipio said he still clings to the hope that audiences may yet see the film.

Warner Bros.’ 2022 choice to cancel the release of Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah’s Batgirl became one of Hollywood’s most talked-about decisions. Although production was completed, the studio wrote the project off as a tax loss, which sparked widespread criticism from fans and industry colleagues.

Now, three years later, one of the film’s actors, Jacob Scipio, told The Direct he hasn’t abandoned the idea of a future release.

“I was lucky enough to see the film, and it was extraordinary. It’s a real shame the world never got to see it. But, you know… you never know. Hollywood is a peculiar place, and I think if enough people want it, anything can happen.”

In other words, the movie was effectively finished, and the rationale for shelving it is still not fully clear. Previously, DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran suggested that Batgirl might have ‘harmed the DC brand.’

Scipio pointed to another case — the adventure-comedy Coyote vs. Acme — which faced a similar fate but was eventually saved. After protracted negotiations, Ketchup Entertainment acquired the rights to the animated feature, and its release is now slated for August 28, 2026.
