Andrew Garfield Snaps at Question About Returning as Spider-Man in “Avengers: Doomsday”
After a stretch of rumors, Andrew Garfield has delivered the most definitive statement yet about his future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Andrew Garfield is best known for portraying Spider-Man in The Amazing Spider-Man duology. Following the nostalgic reunion with Tobey Maguire and Tom Holland in Spider-Man: No Way Home, many fans hoped he might don the suit again.
Over the past months Garfield has repeatedly faced the same question: will he appear in the upcoming film that gathers past and present Avengers, the X-Men and even the Fantastic Four? Where he once joked or sidestepped direct answers, he seemed determined to end the speculation in a conversation with GQ. Asked about a possible role in Avengers: Day of Judgment, Garfield responded in stark terms: “No — absolutely ***** no.”
That said, when the subject turned to the next crossover — Avengers: Secret Wars — he grew far more enigmatic. “Do you understand what this is — a hint? Or what? You’ll find out for yourselves!” Garfield told MTV when asked about his potential involvement. “What do you think that reaction is? Irritation? Maybe. I don’t know. You’ll know soon.”
Avengers: Day of Judgment is scheduled to be released on December 18, 2026. It appears Garfield will not be involved in that installment, but it remains possible fans could still see the “new Spider-Man” back on the big screen.
