American Truck Simulator Adds New Gameplay Type in DLC After 10 Years
Many players are satisfied with Road Trip: Ford.
The developers of the truck simulator American Truck Simulator recently released the first vehicle-focused expansion, titled Road Trip: Ford. It unlocks a new type of gameplay that allows players to travel the world in regular cars and conduct exploration.
Along with traveling, the creators of American Truck Simulator offer virtual drivers the chance to earn extra money. For example, players can take on the role of a courier and deliver cargo. Clients will leave ratings, and additional orders will become available over time. Players will also be able to transport cars between dealerships.
Early reviews for the Road Trip: Ford DLC are very positive, holding an 84% rating after a thousand reviews. Players are praising the new way to explore a virtual version of US states. Some community members warn that the controls take getting used to and share advice on control settings:
Be prepared to fly and flip over, crash constantly, pay for full repairs, and refuel frequently (gas runs out very fast) while you get used to it. I advise setting the steering sensitivity to 0.46 (or lower) on the keyboard, unchecking the realistic fuel consumption model, setting the transmission (devices) settings to adaptive automatic transmission in normal or economic mode—on power mode you will be flying around.
The Steam store page for the Road Trip: Ford expansion for American Truck Simulator is available at the following link. The developers are currently working on a DLC featuring the new state of Indiana, which does not yet have a specific release date.
An in-game event celebrating the release of the South Dakota expansion will run until November 22, 2026. Players can earn commemorative rewards by completing deliveries.
