Cliff Bleszinski Comments on Controversy Over Gears of War E-Day Developers
Some players are now refusing to touch the shooter.
The full release of Gears of War: E-Day is scheduled for October 6, 2026. However, owners of the more expensive Premium Edition can already play the new shooter thanks to a five-day early access period.
Blogger Pirat_Nation reported that the credits of Gears of War: E-Day mention Hit Detection. Within the gaming community, its staff members are known as “agenda specialists,” and the company is called “Sweet Baby Inc 2.0.”
Certain players in the comments, such as FakeSephiros, stated that they make it a matter of principle not to touch projects involving such people in any capacity:
I categorically refuse to touch any game that mentions this name. There are other projects they unfortunately participated in, too—such as the Silent Hill 2 remake and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. […] For me, such projects automatically become trash, just like Gears of War: E-Day. These people are one of the reasons why modern games are complete ***** today.
Users also noticed that Gears of War: E-Day prevents players from mentioning certain political figures, such as “Trump.” Since the term exists in English and means a trump card rather than a swear word, this restriction is being linked to a specific political stance held by the developers. This has sparked debates and calls along the lines of “keep politics out of games.”
Against this backdrop, original Gears of War creator Cliff Bleszinski spoke out. The developer simply reminded everyone that the franchise touched upon political and social themes long before Gears of War: E-Day:
Did everyone forget that according to the lore of Gears of War, the war became so brutal that women were sent to “farms” for impregnation to produce more soldiers? And what about the Berserker being a female Locust, and the fact that Locusts reproduce in a monstrous way? But yeah, “keep politics out of games,” RIGHT?!
Previously, Remedy Entertainment found itself in a similar situation with Control Resonant. At the time, observant users also noticed the credits mentioned Hit Detection. Nevertheless, the game’s peak concurrent player count on Steam exceeded 42,000 players, setting a record for Remedy Entertainment on Valve’s service.
