Amazon to Adapt Spider-Man Clone Saga for New Live-Action Series

Despite positive reviews, Amazon MGM canceled the Nic Cage-led Spider-Noir Prime Video series earlier this month. At the time, Deadline reported that Amazon and Sony, which holds the screen rights to Spider-Man characters, were still ideating and developing additional Spider-projects. Now, another upcoming project is known.

On Tuesday, Deadline reported that Amazon MGM is closing in on an order for a new series based on the “Clone Saga” storyline that disrupted Spider-Man canon in the 1990s. The clone Ben Reilly first appeared as a one-off character in the 1970s before returning in the 1990s. In a controversial decision, the narrative revealed that Ben was the original person and Peter Parker a clone, though Marvel quickly reversed that change. The “Clone Saga” also featured Kaine Parker, a flawed clone who served as an antagonist. Ben and Kaine will serve as the protagonists of the “Clone Saga” television series.

Exact plot details are currently unknown

Deadline sources shared conflicting details about the plot of the show. Some sources stated the story would focus on Ben and Kaine coming to grips with their clone identities while tangling with other clones. Separate sources indicated their origins as clones could be altered and that they might receive new monikers.

Regardless of how the new show approaches the “Clone Saga,” significant deviations from the source material may occur. Deadline noted that Spider-Noir had to change the character’s name from Peter Parker to Ben Reilly because of rights carveouts, meaning the original Spider-Man, Peter Parker, might not be usable for the “Clone Saga” series.

American Born Chinese creator Kelvin Yu is writing the series. Amy Pascal, Phil Lord, and Christopher Miller are expected to executive produce the project alongside Yu. Spider-fans likely know Lord and Miller best as the producers of the animated Spider-Verse movies, the third of which, Beyond the Spider-Verse, is scheduled for release on June 18, 2027.
