Amazon Open to Discussing “Doctor Who” Move to Prime Video Following Disney+ Split
BBC is still looking for a new team to produce future seasons.
Prime Video could become the new international home for Doctor Who. Oliver Jones, head of UK drama for the service, mentioned the possibility during the Edinburgh TV Festival.
“I love Doctor Who, and we are open to discussing any proposals related to well-known franchises.”
Until 2025, Disney+ served as the international partner for Doctor Who. The streaming service helped finance the series and broadcast it outside the UK. Following two seasons, Disney+ decided not to continue the partnership amid high production costs and disappointing ratings for the second season.
Replacing Disney+ is not BBC’s only challenge, however. Production company Bad Wolf and showrunner Russell T Davies have also stepped away from further work on Doctor Who. As a result, the corporation is searching for a new studio to take over future seasons and has invited potential partners to present their own development plans for the series.
