Against the Storm update will change the economy, but losses are inevitable
A substantial 1.9 update, titled “Saltworks”, is coming to Against the Storm. The patch will be released on November 20 and expands Eremite Games’ city-building roguelike.
The headline addition is a new Salt Farm, unlocked after reaching Citadel level 15. It provides a reliable source of Salt and Insects — resources that are typically scarce but required in many crafting recipes.
The update also brings several other changes. The game will receive:
- Two world events — the Skulk and the Petrified Gargoyle;
- Revamped challenges in the Forbidden Glades;
- New trade offers from Merchants;
- Improvements to the Encyclopedia, balance tweaks, and technical fixes.
The complete changelog is available on Steam via this link.
Developers warn that due to the scope of these changes, all unfinished settlements will be removed. The game will mark them as invalid, but players will be compensated with Citadel resources and complimentary Royal Supplies. Cycle progress, meta-progression, and unlocked buildings will remain intact, while temporary events will be removed.
To let players finish any in-progress settlements, a separate 1.8 branch will be available on Steam for two weeks.
