When the original Adventure Time debuted on Cartoon Network back in 2010, audiences were treated to an eight-year odyssey of whimsical, offbeat charm as Finn the Human and Jake the Dog traversed the surreal Land of Ooo. Following the massive success of spinoffs like Fionna and Cake, the iconic duo is set to return in the upcoming series, Adventure Time: Side Quests.

Disney Plus and Hulu have confirmed that Adventure Time: Side Quests will arrive in the U.S. on June 29. The project is a collaboration between Cartoon Network Studios and producer Nate Cash (SpongeBob SquarePants). The creative team features story editor Darrick Bachman (Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends), directors Victor Courtright and Niki Yang, art director Nick Cross, and composer Matthew Janszen.

Acting as a companion piece to the flagship show, Side Quests revisits Finn—now voiced by Sasha Knight, stepping in for Jeremy Shada—and Jake, with John DiMaggio returning to voice the lovable canine. The series is designed to channel the spontaneous, episodic energy of the show’s early seasons, focusing on self-contained adventures rather than the expansive, overarching narratives found in later installments. It promises to be a nostalgic treat for longtime fans while serving as an accessible entry point for a new generation eager to explore Ooo.

“Working on Side Quests felt remarkably similar to crafting the original Adventure Time—like hanging out with art school friends and creating cartoons for a living,” executive producer Nate Cash remarked in a recent press statement. “It was an emotional whirlwind in the best way possible, and I think fans are going to be thrilled to experience these fresh tales with Finn and Jake.”

The pair won’t be alone on their latest journey; the series will also feature beloved recurring characters, including Princess Bubblegum (Hynden Walch), Marceline (Olivia Olson), BMO (Niki Yang), and the Ice King (Tom Kenny).

Although the flagship Adventure Time concluded in 2018, its legacy remains vibrant through various spinoffs like Fionna & Cake and an extensive library of graphic novels. While those deeper dives into the lore have been wonderful, there is no doubt that the dedicated fanbase will be overjoyed to reconnect with the core chemistry of Finn, Jake, and the quirky inhabitants of Ooo when Side Quests officially premieres.
