Wuthering Waves Developers Propose Solution to Large Game File Sizes

Amid rising SSD prices, the developers of Wuthering Waves have introduced three quality options for downloading the game, reducing its PC file size from 99 GB to 57.8 GB.

Studio Kuro Games has added three file packages: SD, HD, and UHD. The first option features the game without video cutscenes at around 57.8 GB, HD increases the size to 80 GB, and UHD brings it to 99 GB.

The SD package contains more heavily compressed cutscenes and lower-quality textures. For players with limited storage space, this saves dozens of gigabytes with minimal quality loss.

For now, this feature is only available in the standalone Wuthering Waves client. On Steam, version 3.7 only permits players to select the HD package, while alternative options will arrive in roughly two months with the 3.8 update.

This approach could prove useful for the industry as a whole, because owners of lower-end PCs and 1080p monitors often have no need to download textures and videos at maximum quality. A separate lightweight SD package would save valuable SSD space.
