A24 has officially landed the distribution rights for the romantic comedy “The Invite,” the latest directorial project from Olivia Wilde (Booksmart, Don’t Worry Darling). The film generated significant buzz following its debut at the Sundance Film Festival.
The acquisition deal is valued at upwards of $10 million, with A24 prevailing over competitive bids from Focus Features, Warner Bros., Netflix, and NEON. The star-studded cast features Wilde alongside Seth Rogen, Penélope Cruz, and Edward Norton. Early critical reception has been highly favorable, boasting an 89% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Serving as a remake of the acclaimed Italian film The People Upstairs, the story follows a middle-aged couple navigating a marital crisis. Their decision to host a dinner party sets the stage for a transformative evening filled with startling revelations, unearthing long-suppressed emotions and uncharted sexual dynamics.
The screenplay was penned by the writing duo Rashida Jones and Will McCormack. While the film is highly anticipated, an official release date has yet to be announced.
