A Game Based on the Movie “Escape from New York” Was in Development — Gameplay and Concept Art Shown Online
Not every project reaches release. An early build of a game adaptation of the cult film has now surfaced.
Players were recently reminded of the cancelled game adaptation of John Carpenter’s Escape from New York. 80 Level covered the project last year, but back then only a handful of concept artworks were published.
You can now not only examine the artwork, but also watch gameplay footage. The YouTube channel Hector Ze Diekomen uploaded a series of clips; the uploader claims they show the cancelled Escape from New York game.
This early build contains many placeholders, yet the videos give a reasonable impression of what the game might have become.
A cooperative or multiplayer title built on Unreal Engine 5, featuring at least three playable characters with distinct abilities that players would have to use to navigate various levels.
