A Blow to PlayStation Platinum Fans: PSNProfiles to Stop Tracking Low-Quality Games
Inflating trophy statistics is about to become a significantly more difficult endeavor.
A dedicated segment of the PlayStation community focuses exclusively on “platinum hunting”—the pursuit of the prestigious virtual cups awarded for completing every single achievement in a given title.
This enthusiast market has been heavily monetized by developers who flood the store with low-quality “shovelware.” These titles are specifically engineered to grant players a platinum trophy with minimal effort and in a matter of minutes.
While PSNProfiles has long served as the go-to platform for tracking these competitive “trophy hunters,” the landscape is about to shift. The site’s owner recently announced a fundamental change in how the service handles shovelware titles.
During a forum discussion, site administrator Sly Ripper explained that these low-effort games will no longer be factored into the global leaderboards, ensuring a more authentic ranking system.
