2027 Could Be Amy Rose’s Year — Sonic Team Chief Wants to Focus on Other Characters After the “Year of Shadow”
Sonic Team plans to expand the “Year of the Character” program after the success of the “Year of Shadow”.
Sonic Team intends to continue the format it first tested during the “Year of Shadow” campaign. Studio head Takashi Iizuka told attendees at the Brasil Game Show that the studio is exploring the idea of dedicating individual campaigns to other franchise characters—especially those set to appear in upcoming films.
“Last year we promoted the ‘Year of Shadow’ inspired by the film. From now on, I would like to choose a new theme each year and highlight different characters. We can anticipate who will appear in the next picture, and we want those characters to take an active part.”
With the film “Sonic 4” slated for a 2027 theatrical release and reportedly featuring Amy Rose and Metal Sonic, those characters are viewed as the leading contenders for the next campaign. Many industry insiders, however, think a “Year of Amy Rose” is the most likely next step, since she is believed to play a prominent role in the upcoming movie.
