Blizzard surprised strategy enthusiasts at BlizzCon 2026 by shadow-dropping Forsaken Kingdom, a brand-new official campaign for Warcraft 3: Reforged.

Forsaken Kingdom

Described as an expansive, two-part narrative, Forsaken Kingdom delves into the subterranean origins of the Undercity. Players will reunite with iconic figures like Sylvanas Windrunner and cross paths with the zealots of the Scarlet Crusade. Clocking in at an impressive thirty hours of gameplay, the expansion also introduces a fresh neutral combatant: the Forsaken Paladin. For devoted fans who have long awaited rich RTS storytelling outside the realms of World of Warcraft and Hearthstone, this release finally delivers—with a plot designed to lay the groundwork for World of Warcraft Forever.

This marks a monumental milestone for the franchise, serving as the first official campaign added to the game in over two decades. Not since The Frozen Throne expansion for Reign of Chaos has the series received fresh episodic content. In the 23 years since, the community has weathered a bumpy road consisting of a short-lived mobile spin-off, classic remasters of the first two titles, and the polarizing rollout of Warcraft 3: Reforged.

Warcraft 3: Reforged Updates

Alongside the campaign, Blizzard has rolled out a substantial, much-needed patch for Warcraft 3: Reforged. The update addresses long-standing technical bugs, significantly upgrades the World Editor for custom map creators, introduces a definitive new graphical preset, and—crucially—raises the unit selection cap to 24 at once. These sweeping improvements strongly suggest that developers are dedicated to turning the tides for the heavily criticized remake.

When Warcraft 3: Reforged debuted in January 2020, it struggled immensely to meet the community’s soaring expectations. Marketed as a breathtaking reimagining of a legendary classic, the final product suffered from downgrades in visual fidelity, persistent performance issues, restrictive custom-content policies, and the noticeable absence of promised story enhancements.

For players who skipped the remaster due to its rocky launch, the current landscape offers a compelling reason to reconsider. Both the classic masterpiece and Warcraft 3: Reforged are currently available on Windows PC, with flexible purchasing options allowing fans to buy the new Forsaken Kingdom campaign individually or bundled with the base game.

Bringing 2002 into 2020 didn’t go so well
