Vince Gilligan Admits ‘Pluribus’ Season 2 Progress Is Slower Than Expected
Vince Gilligan has been refreshingly candid about the timeline for his latest venture, Pluribus, suggesting that fans will need to practice patience before Season 2 arrives. While Apple TV+ originally commissioned the sci-fi drama with a two-season order—and the potential for a longer run—Gilligan and his writing team didn’t begin mapping out the next chapter until after the first season concluded in December 2025. In recent discussions, he indicated that the show likely won’t grace our screens again until 2027 at the earliest.
During a conversation regarding the 25th anniversary of his X-Files spin-off, The Lone Gunmen, we took the opportunity to ask for a status report on Pluribus Season 2. As it turns out, Gilligan was right in the thick of the creative process when we reached out.
“You’ve actually caught me right here in the writers’ room,” Gilligan shared. “We are diligently chipping away at it. I’m stretching my lunch break a bit longer than usual to chat, which is a nice reprieve. We’re currently ‘breaking’ the season. While it’s not moving quite as rapidly as I’d like, we are weaving in plenty of tension and unexpected narrative shifts. I believe we have some truly compelling drama in store for the second season.”
While the specifics of the plot remain under lock and key, Gilligan did hint at which characters might see expanded roles in the upcoming episodes, highlighting the fan-favorite Koumba Diabaté (played by Samba Schutte).
“I can’t divulge specific plot points, but we are looking forward to spending more time with certain characters who were introduced but didn’t get as much screen time as we would have liked. I’m particularly eager to explore more of Mr. Diabaté. Seeing more of Zosia [Karolina Wydra] and Manousos [Carlos Manuel Vesga] will also be a treat for us and the viewers. And, of course, Carol—portrayed by the incomparable Rhea Seehorn—remains the central focus of our narrative.”
To wrap things up, Gilligan offered a playful, albeit slightly terrifying, prediction for the show’s return.
“We’ve got plenty of exciting developments planned for all four of them. We’re just looking forward to people seeing it in eight or nine years when Season 2 is finally wrapped up.”
He’s definitely kidding… we hope.
The complete first season of Pluribus is available to stream on Apple TV+.
