Valve Launches Personal Release Calendar in Steam
In late October, Valve announced the full launch of the personal Steam calendar. The feature helps players find games that have recently been released or are about to launch. Some Steam users have been testing it for a long time, and until recently it was available in Steam Labs.
The personal release calendar is now part of the Steam store. Valve said it builds a selection of recently released and upcoming games that the company believes will be most interesting to each player. To do this, it analyzes player statistics:
The calendar system focuses on what you play the most, so a new game will affect your recommendations only if you spend a really long time in it.
Valve noted that the recommendation system retrains daily on the latest data. According to the company, its developers want to keep players from landing in a recommendation “bubble” built only on what they have played recently:
We also worry that a user could get stuck in a recommendation circle that is too narrow, so we try to maintain variety. With the personal calendar, it is unlikely that a new game in the same genre or with the same theme as your recent ones, and one that also suits you well, will release every day. So the final recommendations are drawn from a wide list of games of all genres that release each day.
The personal release calendar is available on the main Steam page or through a dedicated link.
