Purists now have a seamless opportunity to return to the “classic” era of tactical shooters.
In early March 2026, the gaming community unexpectedly regained the ability to jump back into Counter-Strike: Global Offensive without the usual hurdles. Previously, players were forced to manually navigate the “beta” tab hidden deep within the properties of the modern CS2 client to access the legacy version.
Now that CS:GO is once again easily accessible, it is already attracting tens of thousands of concurrent players. This resurgence is largely driven by content gaps in the sequel; many veterans are returning specifically to play on iconic maps like Cache and Cobblestone or to revisit the Danger Zone mode, which have yet to be fully integrated into CS2.
There is a minor caveat: at the publisher’s request, the Counter-Strike: Global Offensive page is “no longer displayed in the Steam store or search results.” Despite being delisted from public discovery, the game remains fully accessible through this direct link.
