Valve Approves Fan-Made Left 4 Dead 2 Outbreak 64-Bit Port on CS:GO Engine
Modders intend to overcome the original engine limitations while ensuring compatibility with legacy modifications.
Modders from the Outbreak Team recently announced that they are developing a 64-bit port of the cooperative shooter Left 4 Dead 2. They have been working under a non-disclosure agreement for several years.
The Left 4 Dead 2: Outbreak project is being created under an official license from Valve and is planned for release as a modification through the Steam service.
The project is built on the Outbreak Engine, which is a heavily modified LTS branch of CS:GO. The engine supports DirectX 11 and includes only objectively useful improvements carefully selected from projects by a broad external group of programmers licensed by Valve.
In addition, the developers promise to focus on stability and security, as well as implement a framework that will allow modders to add new weapon types on their own.
The creators of Left 4 Dead 2: Outbreak are currently engaging well-known plugin authors to ensure SourceMod support from day one. They are also lifting various restrictions, which will allow enthusiasts to create genuinely gigantic levels and populate them with hordes of enemies.
At present, Left 4 Dead 2: Outbreak is undergoing closed testing. To run the modification, players will need to own a licensed copy of the original Left 4 Dead 2 in their Steam library.
The project cannot be added to the Steam wishlist yet because the page is still hidden. The SteamDB page is available via the following link.
