The U.S. Department of Justice has decided not to challenge Paramount’s $110 billion acquisition of Warner Bros., as reported by Deadline.
Despite this regulatory clearance, the merger could still face legal hurdles from individual states, including New York and California. Paramount CEO David Ellison previously stated his intention to finalize the deal before the end of September.
The acquisition plans were first revealed in February. Initially, Netflix had been a potential suitor for Warner Bros. with an $82.7 billion offer. The proposed consolidation sparked significant backlash within the industry, with over 1,400 Hollywood figures—including Joaquin Phoenix, Robert De Niro, Kristen Stewart, and Denis Villeneuve—voicing their opposition to the deal.
