We are thrilled to offer an exclusive preview of the upcoming 1.60 update for both Euro Truck Simulator 2 and American Truck Simulator. This major patch introduces the Expanded Rest Mechanic, a significant overhaul designed to transform how fatigue management functions in our simulations.

Developed in direct response to the vocal feedback from our #BestCommunityEver, this feature grants you granular control over your journey. You are no longer tethered to rigid, predefined rest periods; instead, you now have the freedom to decide exactly when to stop and how long you wish to sleep.

To support this transition, the fatigue system has been bifurcated into two distinct metrics: Rest State and Mandatory Break, each clearly identified by unique UI icons.
The Rest State—represented by a bed icon—now functions as a depletable resource. While driving, this bar will gradually drain, and resting at a location will replenish it. Should your energy levels drop critically low, you will receive urgent notifications, followed by dangerous “microsleep” events if you continue to push through the exhaustion.

Conversely, the Mandatory Break system is signified by a “P” icon, which tracks your remaining legal driving time. The game will provide a courtesy warning two hours before your required stop. Be advised: exceeding your allotted driving window will result in a traffic violation penalty, reflecting the strict regulations of the road.
Regulation standards remain authentic to the regions: in American Truck Simulator, you may drive for up to 14 hours before requiring a 10-hour consecutive rest, whereas in Euro Truck Simulator 2, the limit is 10 hours of driving followed by 9 hours of rest.

While we believe these changes significantly enhance both realism and player agency, we understand that every trucker has different preferences. Consequently, both of these systems can be toggled on or off independently within the settings menu, allowing you to curate your driving experience as you see fit.
