The upcoming 1.58 update for both Euro Truck Simulator 2 and American Truck Simulator will debut a third installment: the Double Trailer Handling module, featuring an array of technical scenarios designed to test your precision. Let’s delve into the details of what awaits you behind the wheel.
Since its debut, the Driving Academy has become a staple for players looking to master heavy-duty vehicles. If you have yet to explore the curriculum, you can catch up on the foundational Truck Driving Basics or the more advanced Truck Driving Proficiency modules to prepare for this next step.
Our development team has focused extensively on translating the nuances of articulated logistics into interactive lessons. This new module provides hands-on instruction for managing “doubles”—trucks pulling two trailers. Through a series of demanding exercises, players will learn the intricacies of forward navigation, tight maneuvering, and the complex physics of reversing with multiple pivot points.
The Double Trailer Handling module is structured to be accessible to anyone who has mastered the basics. While completing the Proficiency module is not a mandatory prerequisite, the skills gained there will certainly offer a significant advantage when tackling these longer, more temperamental configurations.
The curriculum is organized into three distinct chapters. It begins with essential forward-driving techniques before gradually introducing the counter-intuitive mechanics required to reverse double trailers. The experience culminates in realistic, high-stakes scenarios that mirror the daily challenges faced by professional long-haul drivers.
To ensure a diverse experience, ETS2 and ATS will offer unique challenges tailored to their respective regions. European drivers will master the Euro Combi setup, while those on American roads will face the B-Double configuration. Although B-Doubles are a rarer sight in the United States, they provide an excellent mechanical challenge, forcing players to account for the unique weight distribution and pivot behavior of a multi-trailer rig.
Authenticity is at the heart of this update. We’ve included specific scenarios that focus on “unaligned” starts. While you will first learn to reverse with a perfectly straight truck and trailer, later levels will place you in skewed positions. This forces you to immediately correct the trailer’s trajectory—a common and difficult situation encountered in cramped loading docks and truck stops.
Your efforts in the Academy will not go unrewarded. Upon completing every scenario in this module, you will unlock Frankie, a charming dachshund dashboard accessory to accompany you on your journeys. Please note that this reward is profile-specific. Additionally, completionists can strive for the “Double Trouble” achievement by successfully finishing twelve scenarios within the module.
