Distributor NMG Kinoprokat has unveiled the debut trailer for Hottabych, a new cinematic reimagining directed by Nikita Vlasov and starring Fyodor Bondarchuk. This latest adaptation of Lazar Lagin’s classic novel promises to show the legendary djinn, Hassan Abdul-rahman ibn Khattab, from an entirely different perspective.
The story follows Volka, a teenager struggling to navigate the emotional fallout of his parents’ divorce. His life takes a fantastical turn when he inadvertently releases a genie from a bottle. In this contemporary retelling, the ancient spirit is on a deeply personal quest: rather than simply granting wishes, he yearns to reclaim his humanity and reunite with his long-lost daughter.
Joining Bondarchuk in the ensemble cast are Nadezhda and Anna Mikhalkova, Askar Ilyasov, Polina Denisova, and Roman Evdokimov.
