Tom Hanks to Star in a Baseball Dramedy

Two-time Academy Award winner Tom Hanks is set to headline The Comebacker, an upcoming baseball-themed dramedy directed by Marielle Heller (Nightbitch).

This project reunites Hanks with Heller, who previously collaborated on 2019’s A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood. Based on a short story by Dave Eggers (The Circle), the plot follows Lionel (Hanks), a disillusioned sports journalist whose stagnant career receives an unexpected boost after he is struck in the head by a ball during a game.

Hanks will be joined on screen by rapper Bad Bunny and Colman Domingo. Sony Pictures will handle the film’s distribution, though an official release date has not yet been confirmed.

Beyond this project, Hanks is slated to return as the voice of Woody in Toy Story 5. The actor is also reportedly preparing to portray U.S. President Abraham Lincoln in a future production.
