A casual set visit by the Hollywood icon evolved into a surprise creative partnership on the latest Star Wars project.

Director Shawn Levy recently disclosed to The New York Times that Tom Cruise’s appearance on the set of his upcoming film, “Star Wars: Starfighter,” was far more than a simple social call. While Cruise initially arrived in November merely as a spectator, his involvement quickly transitioned into active filmmaking.

The dynamic shifted when Levy invited the actor to step behind the lens. Cruise reportedly took command of the camera, meticulously framing shots and personally directing a high-stakes lightsaber duel. Levy confirmed that this specific sequence successfully made the cut and will be featured in the final theatrical version.

Set five years after the events of “The Rise of Skywalker,” the narrative details of “Starfighter” remain strictly confidential. The production boasts an impressive ensemble cast, including Ryan Gosling, Matt Smith, Mia Goth, Aaron Pierre, and Amy Adams, among others.

Levy has previously emphasized that the project is not a direct extension of the main saga. Instead of retracing familiar franchise tropes, the film aims to explore an entirely new territory within the Star Wars timeline.

Currently in the post-production phase, the film is scheduled to hit theaters on May 28, 2027.
