Marty Supreme star Timothée Chalamet is set to spearhead a cinematic adaptation of Richard Powers’ acclaimed novel Playground.
Developed in partnership with Warner Bros., the project is currently in the works, though it remains to be seen whether the Oscar-nominated actor will also take on the lead role.
The source material follows Todd Keane, a University of Illinois student who builds a revolutionary digital platform that catapults him into extreme wealth. Following his success, he retreats to the remote island of Makatea in the South Pacific. Blending elements of a cyberpunk thriller with ecological fiction, the narrative deeply explores the integration of artificial intelligence into the human experience.
This year, Chalamet is expected to headline the concluding chapter of the Dune trilogy (pictured). Additionally, he is collaborating with director James Mangold (Logan) on a high-stakes racing thriller titled The High Side for Paramount.
