Tim Curry died of coronary artery disease, according to public health records obtained by People.

The publication reported Wednesday (Sept. 2) that the Los Angeles Department of Public Health document also cited a stroke and kidney cancer as contributing factors, though they were not the underlying cause of death for the Rocky Horror Picture Show star.

The Mayo Clinic notes that coronary artery disease impacts the main blood vessels that supply blood to the heart, leading to reduced blood flow to the heart muscle. The condition is usually caused by a buildup of fats, cholesterol, and other substances in and on the artery walls that narrows the arteries.

Curry died on Aug. 25 at the age of 80 at his home in Toluca Lake, Los Angeles. He suffered a stroke in 2012 that resulted in him using a wheelchair for the rest of his life.

Grand Central Publishing, which released his 2025 memoir Vagabond: A Memoir, confirmed his passing to Billboard. Marcia Hurwitz, Curry’s longtime manager and friend, shared a statement praising his inimitable, flamboyant characters and colorful stage performances, alongside his curious, expansive mind and generous, gentle heart, both of which remained open and filled with anticipation until his final breath.

Curry’s work includes roles in Annie, It, Muppet Treasure Island, and Home Alone 2: Lost in New York.
