Fans are taking matters into their own hands to oppose Amazon’s plans. Thousands of players are fighting to preserve the MMORPG New World, and a petition in support of the game has gathered more than 24,000 signatures.
Recent widespread layoffs in Amazon’s gaming division have effectively ended active support for New World: Aeternum. Frustrated players launched a campaign on Change.org in response, and the petition highlights strong community engagement.
According to the platform, New World amassed a large and committed audience. The title even enjoyed a brief revival: the announcement of new content pushed the MMORPG into Steam’s top sellers and drove up concurrent player numbers. Still, the Nighthaven update will be the final one, and servers are scheduled to remain online only until the end of 2026.
The player-led initiative underscores the community’s passion, but its practical chances of success are questionable. Amazon is a major corporation with a clear business strategy. The layoffs affected other projects as well, including the MMO based on The Lord of the Rings, while March of Giants will continue to be supported.
