As Harry Styles prepares to captivate stadium-sized crowds across North America on his Together, Together tour, the global superstar has offered insight into the therapeutic backstage routine that keeps him tethered to reality following electric nights at iconic venues like Madison Square Garden.

In an intimate cover profile for W Magazine, the British singer-songwriter detailed why stepping into the shower immediately after leaving the stage serves as more than just basic hygiene—it is an essential psychological cleanse. Styles explained the psychological trap of post-performance euphoria: “There’s a version [of yourself] where you come offstage and feel like, ‘Oh, I’m the guy right now.’ I remember that from the really early days, the ‘How do I stay in this feeling — this is amazing!’”

“Over the years, I’ve tried to acknowledge that is that, and I can wash it off,” Styles reflected. “You do the show, you go backstage, you shower, and all of a sudden you’re naked in this most vulnerable, almost infant-like state of yourself. It couldn’t be more different from what you were doing 10 minutes ago.”

The Grammy-winning artist reflected candidly on the intoxicating nature of performing before tens of thousands of devoted listeners, describing how unchecked adulation can distort one’s perception. “When I was younger, admitting that it’s not really about me would have been quite terrifying,” he confessed. “Now it’s actually really liberating to acknowledge that it’s so much bigger than me.”

He further elaborated on the collective energy of live music: “We’re all there for the same thing. I’m not guiding you to me. I’m not asking you to follow me. I’m saying that I believe in the same thing that you believe in, and we’re all here for that reason, which is beyond me.”

The reflections surface just ahead of his landmark 30-date residency at New York’s Madison Square Garden, running through Halloween. Following this extensive run, the tour will conclude with an Australian leg featuring four performances in Melbourne and two in Sydney.

The global trek celebrates Styles’ critically acclaimed fourth studio project, Kiss All the Time. Disco, Occasionally, which debuted atop the Billboard 200 and maintained the peak position for two consecutive weeks, bolstered by the chart-topping lead single “Aperture.”
