Netflix is reportedly planning to release the final episode of the fifth season of “Stranger Things” in U.S. movie theaters, according to the outlet Puck News.
The theatrical run is said to be scheduled for December 31 — the same day the episode is expected to premiere on the streaming platform. Netflix has not issued an official comment on the report.
Showrunners Matt and Ross Duffer were reportedly in favor of a cinematic version, but Netflix’s Chief Creative Officer Bela Bajaria dismissed the proposal.
“A great many viewers experienced ‘Stranger Things’ on Netflix. The series has never lacked conversation, communal viewing moments, or passionate fans. I believe keeping it on Netflix delivers what the audience wants,” she said.
The fifth and final episode of “Stranger Things” is slated to debut on November 26.
