The Lich Wars reveals a Gothic RPG spanning one soldier’s life and two undead wars
Psychic Software has announced The Lich Wars, a standalone prequel to The Necromancer’s Tale. The Gothic RPG follows a musketeer through nearly 30 years of military life in an alternate-history kingdom near Venice.
The story combines branching interactive fiction, checks across nine RPG skills and prose-based combat. Battles range from duels and skirmishes to naval engagements and larger battlefield manoeuvres.
The narrative appears inside a 3D book, with hand-painted tabletop miniatures, portraits, maps and partial voice acting. Players can follow three main career paths, while companions remember shared events differently.
No knowledge of The Necromancer’s Tale is required. A reveal trailer is available, and the game has a Steam page.
