The horror sequel “The Black Phone 2” earned more than $42 million worldwide in its opening weekend on a $30 million budget. In doing so, Scott Derrickson’s follow-up recouped its production costs in just one week. Critics were relatively favorable — the film carries a 74% score on Rotten Tomatoes.
The Keanu Reeves comedy “Luck” posted a less impressive result, debuting in the U.S. with $6 million at the box office.
“Tron: Ares” has reached $103 million, but even that sum is unlikely to free the blockbuster from being labeled a flop. Recall the film’s total budget is $180 million.
