It’s that time of year again—Sword Day has returned! It’s our favorite tradition here to shine a spotlight on the most legendary blades from across gaming, television, and film. While Pokémon aren’t typically known for their martial prowess, a surprising number of them either brandish steel, mimic the shape of a blade, or lean into that sharp-edged aesthetic.
We’ve kept the criteria strict to avoid diluting the concept—no claws, hammers, or spears here. We are strictly focusing on the finest bladed designs in the franchise. Here are the coolest sword-themed Pokémon of all time, ranked from great to greatest.

Honorable Mentions
Before we dive into the main ranking, we have a few standouts that narrowly missed the cut. We have to start with Kabutops, the only Generation 1 representative here. (Apologies to Scyther, but Scizor, while excellent, lacks the literal blades required to make this list.) Seeing this bipedal predator evolve from the unassuming Kabuto is arguably one of the most impressive transformations in the Kanto region.
Next up is Kartana. While it shares its name with a iconic blade, its execution is… polarizing. Standing at a mere 11.8 inches, it looks more like high-stakes origami than a warrior. As an Ultra Beast, it also remains exclusive to the Sun and Moon generation, which limits its availability for trainers.
Finally, we have Kingambit. It was a serious contender, but we just couldn’t justify bumping our top entries to make room for it. That said, with a blade-like crest that doubles as a terrifying mohawk, Kingambit is certainly at the top of the list of Pokémon you never want to run into in a dark alley.

Doublade
They say two is better than one, and Doublade certainly proves that point. It takes the solid foundation of Honedge and doubles down on the weaponry. It’s a bit of a disappointment that the final evolution, Aegislash, reverts to a single blade rather than adding a third, but that doesn’t detract from Doublade’s cool factor. Plus, its Ghost-type typing is fantastic, and the crimson blades on a Shiny Doublade are truly striking.
Doublade lands at number five because, as effective as sentient weaponry is, there is an extra layer of flair reserved for Pokémon that actually command their blades with personality.
4
Zacian
Who’s the goodest boy? It’s definitely Zacian. As the mascot of Pokémon Sword, it was destined for this list, and rightfully so. Beyond its role in saving the Galar region from Eternatus, its color scheme is a masterclass in design, with that vibrant red, blue, and gold trio really popping.
Zacian earns its spot because, in its Crowned Sword form, it actually carries its blade in its mouth like a legendary wolf knight. It’s peak design. It sits at fourth simply because the “Hero of Many Battles” form feels a bit underwhelming compared to the full glory of its armored state.
3
Iron Valiant
Paradox Pokémon are a divisive bunch, and usually, the naming conventions feel a bit lazy. However, Iron Valiant is a massive exception. This futuristic reimagining of Gallade is pure style. With its mech-inspired frame and sleek, glowing pink blade, it looks like a collision between a high-tech android and a 1980s neon aesthetic.
Lore-wise, it’s suggested that a crazed scientist engineered this to be the ultimate Psychic-type. Essentially, we’re looking at Mewtwo with a hardware upgrade, and honestly, we’re here for it.
2
Sirfetch’d
You have to admire the sheer audacity of a duck wielding a giant leek as a broadsword and carrying a shield made of the same plant. Sirfetch’d is the ultimate knight-errant of the Pokémon world. If this creature existed in real life, it would be the most reliable companion you could possibly ask for.
While the evolutionary requirement for Galarian Farfetch’d (landing three critical hits in a single skirmish) is notoriously fickle, the reward is worth the trouble. Sirfetch’d also boasts the move “Meteor Assault”—a name that easily cracks the top tier of attack names in the franchise—and it hits like a freight train.
1
Ceruledge
Taking the top spot, we have Ceruledge. This is, without question, one of the most stunning designs in modern Pokémon history. The deep, obsidian blue armor paired with ethereal, glowing blue blades and magenta highlights is perfection. It’s bold, it’s aggressive, and it’s undeniably cool.
The Fire/Ghost typing is a masterstroke, making it one of the most formidable offensive threats around. Ceruledge is undeniably a step above its counterpart, Armarouge, in terms of sheer aesthetic appeal. Its Pokédex entry in Legends: Z-A perfectly captures its vibe: it is a fiercely loyal partner that will dismantle anyone who threatens its trainer without hesitation. It’s not just a sword-user—it’s the ultimate blade-wielding guardian.
